ABOUT THE VI PEEL®
The VI Peel® is a medical-grade chemical peel that exfoliates the skin, promotes cellular turnover, and stimulates collagen production.
It improves the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, sun damage, melasma, uneven tone, and overall skin texture — revealing a smoother, brighter, and more youthful complexion.
Following proper pre- and post-care instructions ensures safe treatment and beautiful, even results.
PRE-TREATMENT CARE
Before Your Appointment
- Arrive with a clean face — no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products.
- Avoid active skincare for 5–7 days before treatment:
- Retinoids or retinol
- Alpha/Beta hydroxy acids (AHA/BHA)
- Vitamin C serums
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Exfoliating scrubs or resurfacing masks
- Avoid waxing, depilatories, or facial shaving for 3–5 days before the peel.
- Do not tan or have prolonged sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior.
- Tanned or sunburned skin cannot be safely treated.
- If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex virus), inform your provider — antiviral medication (e.g., valacyclovir) may be prescribed before your peel.
Medications & Medical History
- Avoid isotretinoin (Accutane) for 6 months prior to treatment.
- Avoid oral antibiotics or photosensitizing medications for 2 weeks prior if possible (consult your physician).
- Inform your provider of any:
- Recent laser or cosmetic procedures
- Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or new medications
Optional Preparation (Recommended)
- Begin using gentle pigment-control or brightening products (as directed by your provider) 2–4 weeks prior to treatment for enhanced results.
- Hydrate well for several days leading up to your appointment — hydrated skin peels more evenly.
POST-TREATMENT CARE
Proper aftercare is crucial for achieving clear, glowing, and even-toned skin while preventing complications such as hyperpigmentation or irritation.
Immediately After the Peel
- Your skin will feel tight and may appear red, tan, or slightly darker.
- Do not wash, touch, or apply anything to your face for at least 4 hours following application.
- Your provider will provide an at-home VI Peel Post Care Kit — follow the instructions carefully.
- Expect mild stinging or tingling for a few minutes post-application; this is normal and temporary.
First 24–48 Hours
- Do not wash your face or apply products until instructed in your peel kit.
- The peel solution must remain on your skin for a minimum of 4 hours (or overnight if instructed).
- Avoid exercise, sweating, or heat exposure for 72 hours after treatment (this includes saunas, hot tubs, or steam).
- Sleep with your head elevated the first night to reduce swelling.
Days 2–7: Peeling Phase
- Peeling typically begins on Day 2 or 3 and lasts for about 3–5 days.
- The skin will flake or peel in small sheets — do not pick, pull, or scrub the peeling skin. Allow it to shed naturally.
- Cleanse gently using the cleanser provided in your post-care kit and pat dry.
- Apply the Moisturizer and Post-Peel Protectant (VI Derm Post Peel Repair Cream) as directed to reduce dryness and irritation.
- Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen daily — this is essential to protect your new skin and prevent pigmentation.
- Avoid sun exposure and heat during the entire peeling process.
After Peeling Completes (Days 7–14)
- Continue gentle skincare — cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen only.
- Avoid retinoids, acids, or exfoliating products for at least 10–14 days.
- Makeup may be worn once peeling subsides and the skin feels smooth and comfortable.
- Your skin will look brighter, more even, and refreshed as new collagen production continues for several weeks.
RESULTS AND TREATMENT PLAN
- Initial improvement is visible once peeling subsides (typically after 7–10 days).
- Full results develop over 4–6 weeks, as new collagen forms and pigmentation fades.
- For best outcomes:
- Series of 3–6 peels spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended for deeper concerns such as acne scars, melasma, or fine lines.
- Maintenance peels every 3–6 months help sustain your glow and skin health.
