PRE-TREATMENT CARE
Proper preparation helps minimize side effects and enhances your treatment results.
Scheduling and Planning
- If you have an upcoming special event, photo session, or vacation, schedule your appointment at least 4–6 weeks in advance to allow full results and any touch-up if needed.
- Avoid scheduling your treatment within 2 weeks of dental procedures, facial surgery, or vaccinations, as inflammation may interfere with your results.
One Week Before Treatment
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, unless prescribed by your physician:
- Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen, ginkgo biloba, garlic, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, fish oil, and other essential fatty acids.
These can increase your risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
- Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen, ginkgo biloba, garlic, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, fish oil, and other essential fatty acids.
- If you are under medical care, consult your provider before stopping any medication.
48–24 Hours Before Treatment
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and intense exercise for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to minimize bruising and swelling.
- Stay well hydrated and eat a light meal or snack before arriving to avoid lightheadedness.
- Avoid facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling for at least 5 days before your neuromodulator appointment.
- If you are prone to cold sores and will be treated near the lips, inform your provider—an antiviral medication may be prescribed.
Day of Appointment
- Arrive with a clean face — no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or serum.
- Avoid wearing hats or tight headbands.
- Inform your injector if you:
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive.
- Have any active skin infection or rash in the treatment area.
- Have a history of neuromuscular disorders (e.g., myasthenia gravis, ALS, Lambert-Eaton syndrome).
Optional Pre-Treatment Enhancement
- Taking over-the-counter Zinc (Zinc Gluconate 30–50 mg daily) for a few days before treatment may enhance the longevity and effectiveness of neuromodulators.
POST-TREATMENT CARE
Following these steps ensures optimal results and minimizes side effects.
Immediately After Treatment (First 4 Hours)
- Do not lie flat for at least 4 hours after your injections.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas. This includes applying makeup or skincare products.
- Avoid leaning forward or bending excessively.
- Stay upright and perform gentle facial expressions (frowning, smiling, raising eyebrows) every 10–15 minutes for the first hour. This helps the product bind effectively to your muscle receptors.
First 24 Hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise (light walking is fine).
- Do not consume alcohol or caffeine.
- Avoid tight headwear, baseball caps, or goggles that apply pressure to the treated area.
- Do not schedule facials, massages, saunas, steam rooms, or tanning beds for at least 24 hours.
First 48 Hours
- Continue avoiding:
- Intense exercise or excessive sweating.
- Heat exposure (hot yoga, steam, saunas, sunbathing).
- You may gently cleanse your face using mild, non-abrasive cleansers and pat dry — no scrubbing.
First 7 Days
- Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, microneedling, or facial waxing.
- Minor redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection site are normal and should subside within a few hours.
- Bruising may occur and can take 3–7 days to resolve; applying cold compresses for 10 minutes several times daily can help.
- Arnica or bromelain supplements may also reduce bruising and swelling.
Results and Follow-Up
- Neuromodulator results typically begin to appear in 3–7 days, with full results visible at 10–14 days.
- If you notice asymmetry or persistent muscle activity after 14 days, schedule a touch-up visit between days 14–21 for adjustment.
- Results generally last 3–4 months, depending on your metabolism, dosage, and treated area.
- Repeated treatments at consistent intervals help maintain smoother, longer-lasting results.
