ABOUT DERMAPLANING
Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliation treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (“peach fuzz”) from the skin’s surface.
The result is instantly smoother, brighter, and softer skin with improved product absorption and a more refined complexion.
It can also enhance the effectiveness of facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments when performed in combination.
Dermaplaning is safe for most skin types, including sensitive skin, and has no downtime when performed properly.
PRE-TREATMENT CARE
5–7 Days Before Treatment
- Discontinue use of active skincare ingredients, including:
- Retinoids or retinol (Retin-A, Tretinoin)
- Alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHA/BHA)
- Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid
- Benzoyl peroxide or exfoliating scrubs
- Avoid chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments for at least 1 week before your Dermaplane session.
- Do not wax or use depilatories on the treatment area for 5–7 days prior to your appointment.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning (including tanning beds and self-tanners) for at least 5 days before treatment.
- If you have active acne, cold sores, or open lesions, reschedule your appointment once the skin has healed.
- Hydrate well — drinking plenty of water improves skin elasticity and comfort during exfoliation.
Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products.
- Shave the face only if instructed by your provider (most clients should not pre-shave).
- Avoid intense exercise immediately before your session.
- Notify your provider if you:
- Are using Accutane (isotretinoin) or have used it in the last 6 months.
- Have a history of keloid scarring or extremely sensitive skin.
- Have had recent cosmetic injections (Botox, fillers) in the treatment area.
POST-TREATMENT CARE
Immediately After Treatment
- Your skin may appear slightly pink or feel tight and smooth — this typically subsides within a few hours.
- Do not touch or rub the treated area unnecessarily.
- Avoid applying makeup, lotions, or sunscreen for at least 4–6 hours after treatment to allow the skin barrier to settle.
- You may gently cleanse your skin after 6 hours using a mild, non-exfoliating cleanser and lukewarm water.
- Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs, steam, or exercise) for 24 hours.
- Keep skin well hydrated with a fragrance-free, gentle moisturizer recommended by your provider.
First 24–48 Hours
- Avoid:
- Direct sun exposure or tanning.
- Harsh exfoliants or scrubs.
- Active ingredients (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, vitamin C serums).
- Makeup, if skin remains red or sensitive.
- Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.
- If mild flaking occurs, do not pick or peel — this is a normal part of exfoliation.
After 3–5 Days
- Skin will appear more radiant, even-toned, and smoother as cell renewal continues.
- You may resume your normal skincare routine once the skin feels fully comfortable and calm.
- Continue daily hydration and sun protection to maintain your glow.
- For best results, schedule Dermaplane treatments every 4–6 weeks as part of your regular skincare maintenance plan.
COMBINATION TREATMENTS
Dermaplaning may be combined safely with:
- HydraFacial®, Chemical Peels, or Laser Treatments (if performed under professional guidance)
- PRP/PRF facials for enhanced product penetration and rejuvenation
Avoid combining with deep exfoliating or ablative procedures within 1 week unless specifically approved by your provider.
