ABOUT MICRONEEDLING WITH RADIOFREQUENCY (GENIUS RF)
Genius RF is an advanced collagen-stimulating procedure that combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to remodel the skin at a deeper level. It helps improve skin laxity, texture, acne scars, fine lines, and overall tone.
Because the treatment penetrates deeper layers than traditional microneedling, following these pre- and post-care instructions is essential for safe and effective results.
PRE-TREATMENT CARE
Before Your Appointment
- Arrive 30 minutes early for topical numbing prior to treatment.
- Arrive with a clean face — no makeup, sunscreen, lotion, or skincare products.
2–4 Weeks Before Treatment
- Avoid all tanning (sun exposure, tanning beds, and spray tans) for at least 4 weeks before your appointment.
- Tanned or recently sun-exposed skin increases the risk of hyperpigmentation or burns.
- If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex virus), please inform your provider. Antiviral medication (e.g., valacyclovir) may be prescribed to prevent outbreaks.
- Avoid oral antibiotics for 2 weeks prior to treatment as some may cause photosensitivity.
- Discontinue isotretinoin (Accutane) for at least 6 months prior to treatment.
1 Week Before Treatment
- Stop using active skincare products, including:
- Retinoids or retinol
- Benzoyl peroxide
- AHAs/BHAs (glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid)
- Vitamin C serums
- Exfoliating or resurfacing products
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen) for 5–7 days before treatment unless medically necessary.
- These may interfere with your body’s natural healing and collagen formation process.
- Discuss all current medications with your prescribing provider to ensure none are photosensitizing or contraindicated for microneedling with RF.
- Avoid waxing, depilatories, or chemical peels in the treatment area for at least 7 days before treatment.
Day of Appointment
- Hydrate well before arriving.
- Avoid applying makeup, lotion, or sunscreen.
- Inform your provider if:
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any active skin infection.
- You have a history of keloids or hypertrophic scarring.
POST-TREATMENT CARE
Microneedling with RF creates controlled micro-injuries while delivering heat to the dermis, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Post-care focuses on protection, hydration, and avoiding irritation.
Immediately After Treatment (First 24 Hours)
- Mild redness, swelling, warmth, or pinpoint bleeding are expected and typically subside within 24–48 hours.
- The skin may feel tight, dry, or sunburned — this is normal.
- Avoid touching or rubbing your face.
- Use speaker mode for phone calls.
- Change your pillowcase before bed.
- Keep pets away from your face.
- Do not wash your face until the next morning.
- When cleansing, use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser with lukewarm water (not hot).
- Pat dry — do not scrub or rub.
If Growth Factors, PRP, or Exosomes Were Used
- Leave these products on the skin for 12–24 hours before cleansing to allow maximum absorption and accelerated healing.
- Avoid wiping or rinsing the treated area during this time.
First 48–72 Hours
- Avoid makeup, sunscreen, or any unapproved skincare products for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 1 week. Use SPF 50+ daily once approved to resume sunscreen use (usually after 24–48 hours).
- Avoid sweating or heat exposure, including:
- Vigorous exercise
- Hot yoga or steam rooms
- Saunas, hot tubs, or baths
- Keep skin moisturized with the recommended post-procedure serum or repair cream.
- Do not pick or peel any flaking skin. Mild dryness or shedding may occur for several days.
After 1 Week
- Continue using gentle cleanser and moisturizer only.
- Avoid any active skincare ingredients (retinol, acids, exfoliants) for at least 7 days.
- You may resume your regular skincare routine once the skin feels fully healed and no longer sensitive.
- Avoid any chemical peels, facials, or laser treatments for 2–3 weeks.
RESULTS AND TREATMENT PLAN
- Improvements in skin texture and tone may begin to appear within 2–4 weeks, with continued collagen remodeling over 3–6 months.
- A series of 3–4 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended for best results.
- Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months help sustain long-term collagen production and tightening.
- Pairing with PRP, Exosomes, or PDRN can enhance healing and visible outcomes while reducing downtime.
