ABOUT INTRAMUSCULAR (IM) INJECTIONS
Intramuscular (IM) injections are a safe and effective method of delivering medications, vitamins, or supplements directly into the muscle tissue, allowing for faster absorption and higher bioavailability compared to oral administration.
Common IM injections may include vitamin B12, MIC injections, glutathione, hormone therapy, or other provider-recommended therapies.
Proper preparation and aftercare help reduce discomfort, bruising, and injection-site reactions while ensuring optimal therapeutic benefit.
PRE-TREATMENT CARE
Before Your Appointment
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the injection site (typically arm, thigh, or glute).
- Eat a light meal and hydrate well prior to your visit.
- Inform your provider if you are feeling ill, lightheaded, or unwell on the day of treatment.
24–48 Hours Before Treatment
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your injection.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements if medically safe, including:
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen or naproxen

POST-TREATMENT CARE
IM injections may cause temporary local reactions as the medication is absorbed. These effects are typically mild and short-lived.
Immediately After Injection
- Mild soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site is normal.
- Apply gentle pressure for a few minutes if minor bleeding occurs.
- You may resume normal daily activities immediately unless otherwise instructed.
First 24–48 Hours

- Keep the injection site clean and dry.
- Apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes if soreness or swelling occurs.
- You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort. Avoid NSAIDs unless prescribed.
Ongoing Care
- Mild soreness or a small lump at the injection site may persist for 1–3 days.
- Gentle movement and light stretching can help reduce stiffness.
- Stay well hydrated to support absorption and overall wellness.
